Liz is receiving the first MassMutual Young Entrepreneurial Scholar Award, which will become an annual event. The award includes $500 , which is to be used for postsecondary educational costs or as an investment in the student’s business venture.

A student at the Lower Pioneer Valley Educational Collaborative’s Career and Technical Education Center, Liz has created a small business in embroidering shirts and blankets. She trained on a commercial embroidery machine in the classroom and has branched out in her products to include personalized designs in Portuguese, in which she is fluent.

Liz is planning on participating in the STCC Entrepreneurial Institute’s BizTech online course which is designed to expand entrepreneurial acumen and academic competencies. When she completes and submits her online business plan, Liz will receive three college credits which will be transferable when she attends college in 2001.
