Class 2002

Tomas Black

MassMutual Young Entrepreneurial Scholar
Tomas Black

Tomas is also a recipient of the third annual Young Entrepreneurial Scholars Award.  The award includes $500, which is to be used for post-secondary educational costs or as an investment in the student’s business venture.  Tomas was the second place winner in the Springfield Technical Community College Entrepreneurial Institute and the National Foundation for Teaching Entrepreneurship YES! Business Plan Competition.

Tomas is a junior at Amherst Regional High School, where he also participated in the Young Entrepreneurial Scholars entrepreneurship class.  He is the founder of Massachusetts Youth Golf Organization (MYGO), a tax-exempt business to promote youth golf.  Tomas started the business when he was just 13 years old.  He recognized the need for a venue for young people to play tournament golf just for fun, and created a business to meet that need.

Tomas is a new tenant in the Community Foundation of Western Mass. Student Business Incubator at STCC, located in the Scibelli Enterprise Center.  In the student business incubator he will receive support, assistance and training to help him further develop MYGO golf.  His love of golf and his determination combine to make him a successful young entrepreneur.

Tomas plans to attend college upon graduation from high school and pursue a degree in business.  He hopes to roll out a national model of his business and remain a lifelong golfer and successful entrepreneur.
